In her comedy of manners Female Remedy, Leila Hekmat transforms the Haus am Waldsee into a sanatorium for women with symptoms that need no cure. The patients and nurses who populate Hospital Hekmat are resistant and thwart conformist images of gender and sexuality. This is also reflected in the elaborate, handmade costumes, which take up the tradition of surrealist theatre and spin it on.
In the workshop with artist Nadin Reschke, participants are invited to slip into a different (textile) shell themselves and experiment with their own ideas of femininity and gender through unfamiliar costumes. In dialogue with the exhibition, participants playfully put their own role models to the test and relate them to the figures created by Leila Hekmat.
