Sven Drühl

While the sound collages of VJs in the clubs of the megacities have achieved artistic status, the painter and mathematician Sven Drühl (n. 1968) has developed images which draw from motifs from art history. He employs his signature abstract-planar technique to translate quotes by Caspar David Friedrich, André Derian, Edward Theodore Compton, Alfred Renger-Patzsch, Sebastião Salgado or Wolfgang Tillmans as well as digital computer graphics into pictures on pictures. He creates the visible from a previously reworked, abstract reality. By unusual means such as silicon, lacquer and oil, Drühl mirrors a second, calculated and artificially constructed nature of the future.
