Excursion to the Estate of Lynn Chadwick

Excursion to the Estate of Lynn Chadwick

Group photo at Paddington station, Photo: friendly London policemen, 2019

At the end of June, we went on an excursion to England with a group of members of our friends association. Lypiatt Park was Lynn Chadwicks studio and home from 1958 to 2003. Located west of London in Gloucestershire, particularly successful London artists retreated to this region of the “Cotswolds”, then as now. David Chadwick, the son of the famous English sculptor, who is himself an artist and now lives in his father Lynn’s castle, meets here regularly with his friend Damian Hirst, who lives in a nearby estate.

Daughter Sarah led the group through the six-hectare sculpture park. Here are Chawick’s sculptures as he himself placed them in dialogue with the landscape. An enchanting summer day. The artist seemed to be present, also at lunch in the castle. The day ended in nearby Painswick. Sculpture fans who have the opportunity to visit this non-public park should definitely go there. Our double exhibition offers a good starting point.
